Year 9

In Year 9 it is time to give pupils the opportunity for more independent working and to allow them to have a more personal input into their own work.

The pupils in Year 9 have actively opted to study Art and as such are expected to be enthusiastic and committed to their art work. We take Year 9 on a field trip each year and their exhibition project is based around this day out.

In the past pupils have visited Whipsnade Zoo, The London Eye, The Aquarium and Cambridge Botanical Gardens. This year we will be entering 'The Unilever International Art Competition'. The competition is based around the work of Carsten Holler, a German sculptor. He is charged with the task of filling The Tate Modern's Turbine Hall with a sculptural installation. Pupils will visit The Tate Modern in November, to view Holler's installation and the gallery's permanent collection.

As a department we use this year as an opportunity to build on the pupil's skills and develop their creative and conceptual thinking in preparation for GCSE. We mirror the GCSE course in many ways and endeavour to enable pupils to produce ambitious, personal art pieces.

All Year 9 pupils are involved in a school exhibition of their work in May. This encourages them to value their work and judge it against that of their peers.
