Edexcel GCSE Course Painting Printmaking Sculpture

The aims of the GCSE Unendorsed course at BMS are to develop:

practical skills for communicating and expressing ideas, feelings and meanings in art.investigative, experimental and interpretative capabilities.an understanding of the codes and conventions of art and design.knowledge and understanding of art in contemporary society and in other times and cultures.

The unendorsed GCSE route enables pupils to explore a range of two and three dimensional approaches to their studies.


Throughout the two year course, pupils will make artwork related to themes set by their teacher. This thematic work will form their coursework unit and is worth 60% of their overall mark at GCSE.


In February of their final GCSE year, pupils are given their externally set assignment. This will take the form of a theme set by the examination board. Pupils are given eight weeks to prepare for this exam and must produce prep studies and supporting work in their sketchbooks. The examination is 10 hours long and takes place over 2 days. The exam work is worth 40% of their overall GCSE.
