Edexcel AS Fine Art Course
The aims of AS Fine Art at BMS are to develop:
A student's intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers. Practical skills, aesthetic understanding and critical judgement. A knowledge and understanding of art & design in contemporary society. The AS course consists of 2 units of work, which are assessed at the end of the year. One of these units is coursework generated within the department and the second is an externally set assignment, which will be completed under exam conditions in eight hours. The emphasis of this course is breadth of study. Students are encouraged to extend their knowledge of artists and to improve their own practical skills across a range of areas.
During the Autumn term students will be challenged to experiment with materials and techniques in areas as diverse as: Photography, Life drawing, Ceramics, Painting and Printmaking. This will widen their skills base and introduce them to new ways of working and thinking. They are then encouraged to use these new skills in their response to this year's theme of, 'Identity' and create a finished artefact in answer to this given theme.
