Edexcel A2 Fine Art Course

The aims of A2 Fine Art at BMS are to develop:

An intense experience in the pursuit of individual creativity.an understanding and appreciation of the individuals creative thoughts and skills.interaction with Art and artists, through visits, tutorials and workshops.

Students produce 1unit of coursework and the emphasis of this year is depth of study.

The coursework takes the form of two elements. Students are asked to decide on an area of practical study that they could develop over the year. This may be broad such as: ‘Landscape’ or ‘the nude’, or they may be more specific with starting points such as, ‘Shadows’ or ‘self portrait’. This study will be a practical exploration of their own ideas and work and will include an investigation of similar artists work. The conclusion of this will be an exhibition of their artwork in June of the A2 year.

The second element of study is a 'Personal Study’ and this is a written essay of between 1000 and 3000 words. It forms a historical analysis of the subject chosen for their own work in the practical element. It should be an indepth illustrated dissertation exploring their work and that of other influential artists.

All students will sit an external set exam, lasting 12 hours.

These 2 units are marked in June of the A2 year.
